Hvar Away exists to inspire memories through the beauty and magic of the island.

We believe the best way to discover special places is from those who call it home. We seek out properties filled with the island’s magic. Many of them are only available through us.

As “foreigners turned locals” living on the island all year round, we know each villa in our collection intimately – the story, the details, and the owners – so we can connect guests with their perfect escape.

Medvidina Bay is a secluded cove on the southern coast of Hvar, and it’s where we spent our first summer after our spontaneous move to the island. It’s also where the Hvar Away story quietly began.

At the end of the long, winding road down to the bay, there are only a handful of houses. One belongs to a French gentleman named Pierre, who became a fast friend during those long summer days of 2020 we all shared in the water and the sun. When it was time for him to head back to Paris, having known us for approximately two weeks, Pierre pressed the keys to his almost-finished house into our hands.

“Would you like to stay here over the winter,” he asked, “and keep an eye on things?”

He paused, then added with a grin, “And if you could manage renting it out next summer, that would be perfect.”

Moments like that often only reveal their significance years later.

The house in the photo is La Villa Bleue – or, to us, simply “Pierre’s house” – and it remains, to this day, our most beloved and sought-after villa.

We chose Hvar as home for its unparalleled beauty, but we were able to build a life here because of its quieter gift: the way it keeps putting the right people in the right place at the right time.

In June 2023, we even had the pleasure of getting married here, with our friends and family on a sun-warmed hilltop, the sea shimmering far below us, and the island’s quiet magic humming in the breeze.

We’re eager to share this magical place with you.

We are locals. Elisha, Matt, or a member of our team will always be there to greet you at your villa when you arrive.

Staying with Hvar Away also means round-the-clock care and maintenance. Matt lives on the island all year round and is never far away. In the off-season he maintains our villas and renovates old stone houses to add to our collection. Throughout your stay he is only a phone call or message away.

Many of our villa owners have their own excellent caretakers, but Matt is always on standby as extra backup whenever it’s needed. We’re completely committed to keeping your holiday relaxed and worry-free from start to finish.
