Accommodation at St. George Court is organised across one main house and two separate stone cottages. The house has the welcoming atmosphere of a well-loved, sensitively restored home. Classically styled, with Dalmatian touches here and there, it has an understated, unostentatious sense of luxury. A quirky Mediterranean palette, exposed wooden beams, and a mixture of modern and antique furniture provide a discreet backdrop for views that need to be seen to be believed.

The main entrance leads into a welcoming, comfortably furnished living area with a glass south-facing wall, meaning you can enjoy the incredible sea views even when inside. To the left of the living area and up a few stone steps is the open-concept dining area, with a well-equipped countrystyle kitchen, complete with a dishwasher, oven, and large fridge.

The two principal bedrooms are located on the first floor of the main house, each accessed via its own external stone staircase. The first is a double room with a king size four-poster bed, and an additional twin bed. The second contains three twin beds, two of which can be configured as a double. Both bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms.

The third and fourth bedrooms are each situated in separate one-level stone cottages within the complex. The third bedroom features two twin beds, a sofa bed large enough for two, and an en-suite bathroom with step-in shower. The final bedroom houses a queen bed, a bathroom with a bathtub and WC, and our favourite window view of the entire house.

Heading outside, St. George Court is immersed in extensive and luxuriant gardens, whose whispering olive trees, sweet fig trees, and aromatic herbs offer up a feast for the senses. The estate is planted with towering cypresses and other mature trees, ensuring privacy, seclusion and tranquillity, and there are numerous spots in which to while away days and evenings and plenty of scope for fun, games and entertainment.

The main outdoor courtyard is surrounded by dry stone walls and contains a summer kitchen with sink and plenty of workspace for preparing delicious ingredients. The shaded al fresco dining table is large enough for 12 people. Directly in front of this dining area and still within the confines of the stone walls is the al fresco lounge, the perfect setting for evenings under the stars.

Steps lead down from the al fresco dining area to the gorgeous 11m-long infinity pool, which, like most of the grounds, offers captivating views out to sea. The pool area is served by a shaded pavilion with large lounging mattresses and several deck chairs.

The fabulous tennis court is a short stroll down one of the paths that interconnect the entire estate, and features high-quality artificial grass with quartz sand, providing a soft and comfortable surface for players of all levels.

This beautifully genuine Dalmatian property offers an ideal option for those looking for understated luxury with a difference – featuring charming, romantic interiors nestled within a labyrinth of stone walls, surrounded by serene fields and unforgettable views.

  • A bumpy 4km gravel road is required to access the villa, therefore renting an SUV/4x4 is advised.
  • The villa is located approximately 500 metres in a straight line from the sea, and there is no beach access. To reach the island's beaches, a drive is necessary.
  • The pool is not heated, therefore may be extremely refreshing before and after the summer season.
  • St. George Court does not have air conditioning. The extremely thick stone walls and fans are sufficient to keep temperatures comfortable throughout even the peak of summer.
  • This remote location is not connected to the grid, and therefore all power comes from the solar farm on the estate and back-up generators.
  • Restaurants and other establishments mentioned are subject to seasonal availability. Opening and closing dates are determined by the businesses themselves and may vary. Some venues may be closed outside the peak summer season.

The Area

St. George Court is a stone complex within a private 30,000-metre square estate, 3km from Humac. This 17th century ethnovillage is in the Register of Cultural Monuments.

Humac is an almost-abandoned stone village close to the geographic centre of Hvar, built to serve the surrounding vineyards rather than as a permanent residential settlement. Families from the village of Vrisnik constructed stone houses here to stay close to their fields during the growing and harvest seasons, making Humac a working agricultural outpost rather than a self-contained community. The village was gradually abandoned once proper roads connected it to Vrisnik, removing the practical need to live beside the vineyards year-round.

What remains today is a remarkably intact agricultural village, defined by dry-stone houses and panoramic views across the island’s northern side. Humac now feels suspended in time, not because it was forgotten, but because it was simply no longer required. Its setting near Grapčeva Cave and along historic walking routes makes it a natural stopping point for hikers and curious travellers, while a single restored konoba (local restaurant) brings measured life back to the village after sunset. Humac suits visitors interested in Hvar’s rural history and landscape, offering a quiet, atmospheric counterpoint to the island’s coastal towns.

2 fantastic weeks. Need to have a fairly high car. A little far from the main road, but absolute calm.

Tim C.Stayed June 2020

Justine C.Stayed July 2019

The villa is the most stunning rental I have ever seen. If you’re looking for a quiet, remote place to relax, it’s the perfect place. The views are spectacular. We hosted 12 good friends for a relaxing long weekend. We loved the outdoor spaces - the kitchen and the pool were incredible. The host was…

Julia N.Stayed July 2019

This house is MAGICAL. It’s off the beaten path but that is the best bit! A traditional Croatian home surrounded by lavender with incredible views over the island and sea below, beautiful pool and lots of outdoor spaces to chill. The rooms are traditional but more modern than they appear in the…

Lidija U.Stayed May 2019

Fantastic property, located on the top of the hill with stunning views of the sea and of the surrounding, enjoying the priviledge of complete privacy. Old, traditional Dalmatian estate reformed to the highest standards, yet it was successfully preserved all the authenticity of antique stone…

Very nice villa with tremendous view, pool and garden!

Georg N.Stayed October 2016

Totally perfect place, very remote and quite with an overwhelming view over lavender fields and the sea. Very clean and lovely accommodations. Of course best with sunny skies and pool feeling, but also very nice on rainy days at the fireplace. Only thing: Better be equipped with a SUV since track to…

Jessica B.Stayed September 2016

The villa is even nicer than the images suggest! So much space, beautifully renovated and very well equipped. The hosts were so helpful and very easy to communicate with. It is very secluded and I would certainly suggest all guests having access to a car otherwise taxis will be expensive. But once…
