Cliffbase cellar

Situated just below the near-vertical limestone towers that shield the island's south side, the vineyards that create these special wines are exposed to direct sunlight and sea reflection, which influences the grapes to create a powerful taste.

Experience the Cliffbase wine cellar, a stunning limestone chasm by the sea, offering Insta-worthy moments as soon as you arrive with vine-draped entrances and azure water views of the Adriatic. Descend the winding stairs into a softly lit, romantic underground cellar for an intimate tasting of local reds like Plavac Mali, celebrated for its peppery, smoky notes from grapes grown on the towering cliffs above.

Cliffbase’s unique vineyards produce pure, organic wines without chemicals or irrigation. Don’t miss the Plavac Mirko, a rare, naturally fermented wine aged three years in Slavonian oak barrels.

Meet the winemaker

Miro Plavac, whose self-assumed last name reflects his deep passion for Hvar’s wine, arrived on the island 15 years ago. An avid climber, he quickly fell for Hvar’s beauty and embarked on thrilling adventures, including the extraordinary feat of skiing from the island’s peak to Dubovica Bay during the 2014 snowstorm. His love for Plavac Mali was so intense that he decided to purchase a vineyard and craft his own wine. His dedication paid off, as his Plavac Mali outshone all others in a blind tasting.

Notes

  • Cliffbase is located just east of Sveta Nedjelja marina. For the able-bodied and adventurous, it is possible to walk a trail for 10-15 minutes along the shoreline – although the last 5 minutes is particularly tough and uneven. Alternatively, take a water taxi from Sveta Nedjelja marina – contact us for more information.

Terms

For bookings of this Experience, the following conditions apply:

  • A booking deposit of €40 is due for payment at the time of reservation. This will be retained in the event of cancellations less than 7 days prior to the Experience date.
  • The remaining balance payment of €125 is due in cash upon arrival at Cliffbase.
