INSIDE
Accommodation at Villa Lapis is spread over two floors. The outstanding contemporary design has been conceived to make the very most of the enchanting sea views and sunsets. Walls of sliding glass doors pull back to unite the indoor and outdoor areas in a seamless flow, and light floods in, tempered by gentle sea breezes. Quality fixtures, fittings and furnishings complement the architectural aesthetics and add to the overall feeling of laidback luxury and understated glamour.
The main entrance leads straight into the heart of the home, a generously proportioned open-concept communal space that is filled with light and a sensation of well-being. On the left, serving a dining table behind, is a sleek, well-equipped contemporary kitchen complete with a coffee machine, an ice maker, oven, microwave, oven, and wine refrigerator. The stylishly furnished living zone next to the dining area is replete with only the best tech: a 55” Samsung QLED TV, a Playstation 5, Starlink wifi, and an integrated sound system with Bowers & Wilkins speakers.
Two walls of fully extendible sliding glass doors open up to allow a frictionless flow out onto the terrace that runs along the entire façade of the villa, while at the same time bringing in the bewitching views of the Stari Grad Bay.
A staircase leads from near the living area, past the downstairs bathroom, up to the first floor, which is home to Lapis's sleeping quarters. The master bedroom features a king bed, a smart TV, and an en-suite bathroom with bathtub. The two secondary bedrooms boast glorious views out to sea, are also equipped with smart TVs, and share a dual-sink shower room. The first floor is also home to the integrated infrared sauna.
The staircase continues up to connect the first floor to the panoramic roof terrace, of which more below.
OUTSIDE
The main terrace runs along the entire façade of Villa Lapis, accessed directly from the open-plan communal area, and offers numerous possibilities for al fresco living. Loungers and beanbags envelop the splendid centre piece: the 29 square metre heatable pool from which swimmers may take in the glorious views out to sea.
Villa Lapis sits in grounds of 600 square metres that merge with the surrounding Dalmatian countryside. No matter where you are, the wonderful views of the Stari Grad Bay, with its sparkling blue waters and its hilly pine-forested shoreline are always present. On all sides, the gardens are delimited by handmade dry stone walls, providing a full sense of seclusion and privacy.
Finally, as mentioned in the inside section above, the top floor of the villa is home to the well-shaded panoramic roof terrace from where the vistas are magical, not least in the early evening as the sun sets into the sea. This terrace is equipped with a Napoleon gas barbecue, a dining table for six, an outdoor Samsung TV, an independent sound system, and a bar, making it the perfect spot for long, lazy, sea-view lunches and convivial dinners under the stars. The Area
Villa Lapis is the last property in Selca, an almost-abandoned hamlet that sits in a wonderfully panoramic position above the Stari Grad bay, and just a 5-minute drive from the town of Stari Grad.
Stari Grad, the oldest town on the island of Hvar, is a picturesque coastal community characterised by its ancient stone buildings and streets, surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, and forested hills. Its deep, sheltered harbour attracts sailing and yachting enthusiasts from around the world. Unlike the bustling Hvar Town, Stari Grad offers a more tranquil and historic setting, making it one of Croatia’s most treasured destinations.Accessing Stari Grad is straightforward, with options for both pedestrians and those coming to the island with a car. From Split, visitors can take a ferry or catamaran directly to Stari Grad or opt for private transfers that offer a more seamless journey from Split Airport to Stari Grad Harbour. Those driving can take a ferry from Split or, if travelling from Dubrovnik, a shorter ferry route via Drvenik to Sućuraj, followed by a scenic drive across the island. Yacht and sailboat arrivals are also popular, with the town’s bay accommodating large vessels and providing a protected anchorage.
Stari Grad boasts a variety of activities and sights, and is ringed by myriad beaches which are accessible by foot, bike, or boat. The northern and southern coasts of Stari Grad Bay feature beaches like Bonj, Helios, Lanterna, and Maslinica, each offering unique amenities and settings. For those exploring by boat, beaches like Brusje and Veli Dolac provide idyllic spots with clear waters and waterfront dining options. The town’s rich cultural scene includes historical landmarks such as the Tvrdalj Fortress and St. Stephen’s Church, as well as the Stari Grad Museum, which offers insights into the town’s Greek and Roman heritage. No visit to Stari Grad is complete without indulging in its exceptional seafood, particularly at Kod Barba Luke, renowned for its local, wild-caught fish. For a vibrant dining experience in a lovely cobbled street alley, Antika offers a charming atmosphere and outstanding dishes. Konoba Batana, a family-run gem in Stari Grad's backstreets, also impresses with its quality and friendly service. For affordable, traditional Dalmatian fare, Kod Damira on the main square is a must, especially for its daily “marenda” dishes, a light meal perfect for a mid-morning break. Vegans, vegetarians, and health food enthusiasts will find Nook to be an ideal spot. The town’s nightlife is low-key but enjoyable, with places like Lampedusa offering excellent cocktails and a laid-back atmosphere. For shopping, Za Pod Zub provides a range of gourmet local products and artisan crafts, making it a must-visit for souvenirs and local delicacies.
